BD Microtainer® MAP blood collection tubes K2EDTA (PP)

The BD Microtainer® MAP blood collection tubes have been designed to be used for the collection, transportation and processing of small amounts of capillary blood. They contain K2EDTA that is intended for the primary containment and preservation of specimens for the purpose of in-vitro diagnostic examination. Specifically, to obtain and separate a whole blood or EDTA plasma sample.

The BD Microtainer® MAP tube for automated processing enables efficient workflow, both on the ward and in the laboratory. It has a 250-500 μl draw volume and measures 13mm diameter and 75mm height with a 1mg spray dried K2EDTA 2.0-4.0mg/mL additive within the tube. The light purple cap has the BD Microgard™ tube closure, designed to protect from blood which may splatter when the tube is opened. The rubber stopper is recessed inside the plastic shield, preventing exposure to blood present on the stopper. A larger diameter facilitates handling of the tube.
To ensure tube identification, the tubes are marked with the colour code that corresponds to the venous blood collection tubes. There are fill marks on the tubes that ensure the correct blood to additive ratio.
EDTA salts (ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid) are widely used to anticoagulate whole blood for haematological investigations, as the cellular components of the blood are particularly well preserved by EDTA. The anticoagulation is achieved by the EDTA forming complexes with metal ions such as calcium, therefore inhibiting the coagulation cascade. Anticoagulation with EDTA is irreversible.

This product is provided in cases of 200 tubes (4 boxes of 50 tubes), with a minimum order quantity of 5 cases (1000 tubes).
