Alpha Laboratories aims to make a positive impact to people's lives by working with a number of local and national charities and organisations.
Working with Bowel Cancer UK
Alpha Laboratories has been working with the National Bowel Screening Programmes for many years. Initially this was to supply the guaiac based faecal occult blood tests but more recently has involved helping them transition to the more sensitive and specific faecal immunochemical testing (FIT) method for screening.
Bowel cancer is the fourth most common cancer in the UK and the second biggest cancer killer. Over 44,000 people are diagnosed with bowel cancer every year in the UK. Screening aims to detect bowel cancer at an early stage, when treatment has the best chance of working.
Thus, Bowel Cancer UK is a charity close to our hearts. Our annual Christmas e-card is dedicated to them, we have previously supported study days for health professionals and our staff have even chosen them as their charity for sponsored events such as the Great South Run.
Active April Challenge 2025
Having supported Active April since 2022, our team once again took part in this year's campaign.
This year the Alpha team set out with a target of walking 500,000 steps. Collectively, we ended up achieving an incredible 4,590,285 steps, far exceeding our original target. From dog walks and Park Runs to exploring the Jurassic Coast, every step contributed to raising £8,000 for Bowel Cancer UK.
This donation supports Bowel Cancer UK's mission to ensure a future where nobody dies of bowel cancer.
We're proud to have supported this worthy cause again and look forward to making an even bigger impact next year!
Eastleigh Basics Bank
Within the month of December during the last couple years, Alpha staff were encouraged to make a voluntary donation of tinned or dry goods and toiletries to Eastleigh Basics bank – a reverse Advent Calendar – giving rather than receiving. Alpha matched all donated items from staff, doubling the donation.
Due to the rise in costs for food and essential amenities, Eastleigh Basics bank has seen a large increase in demand over the years - We are delighted to deliver a number of boxes to them and help where we can!
This is a popular cause in our community, with deposit points stationed at multiple supermarkets around the local area. We are proud to support Eastleigh Basics Bank, knowing we are giving back directly to our community where support is critically needed.

Mike Runs the Marathon for Mind
A huge congratulations to Mike Godley, one of our Key Account Managers, for running the London Marathon with an incredible time of 4:29:37! What a fantastic achievement.
Mike ran the Marathon to raise money for Mind, and raised over £1000!
Employee Nominated Donations
Alpha understands that employees are a vital part of their communities, and these may not always be represented in the community work Alpha do. These organisations may often have limited resources for fundraising or to request external support. Therefore, Alpha has established a donation scheme where employees are entitled to nominate one chosen charity or organisation of their choice for a company donation per year.
We look to reach and support as many communities as we can, especially those of our staff. So far successful nominations have included;
- Local football clubs
- Coastal watch organisations
- Care homes
- Wildlife and animal charities
- National charities
We are delighted by the range of organisations we have supported so far and are excited to continue supporting our staff and their communities.
